Apple-Newton Family of North Carolina Archives:
The Posthumous Online Home of Dr. Robert Lee Newton and Winnie Apple Newton

Robert Lee Newton and Winnie Marie Apple met at Duke University and were married shortly after the end of World War II. During their lives together they raised four children in the context of a Christian home setting. As a ministerial couple they touched the lives of thousands of people during their years in New Haven, CT; Millbrook and Buies Creek, NC; Chicago, IL; Blowing Rock and Raleigh, NC.
Dr. Robert L. Newton, known familiarly as Bob to friends and colleagues, was pastor at Millbrook Baptist Church, Chaplain at Campbell College and pastor of Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek, NC, pastor at First Baptist Church of Blowing Rock, NC, and headed The Department on Family Life at The North Carolina Baptist State Convention. Both he and Winnie were active members in many capacities at First Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Each of their four children have taken an interest in different facets of family history. Anita keeps an extensive photographic record as well as various historical objects. Lee has delved into the family genealogical record. Diana keeps a room in her home dedicated to family photos and memorabilia. Diana has also produced and directed an award-winning documentary film memoir about this family, The Ties That Bind: A Documentary Film Memoir. Christine has multiple family archival projects in the works and maintains this website.
For these reasons: here you will find primary source materials from the Apple and Newton family archives that are deemed of interest to the general public. The intended purpose of this site is to document the life and work of its subjects. While Dr. Newton and Winnie were persons of “abiding faith,” the function of providing these source materials is neither evangelical, political, or commercial.
Rather, this site is intended to fulfill an archival, biographical, and documentary mission. Most of the assets found here are available under a CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0 license.
